In response to Indiana’s controversial new discrimination law, actors Zach Braff and Donald Faison of the TV series ‘Scrubs’ offered to cater same-sex couples’ nuptials.
Indiana recently saw it’s Governor Mike Pence sign into law the controversial new ‘Religious Freedom Restoration Act’, which allows people (and their businesses) the right to discriminate based on religious beliefs. Following Governor Pence’s law, an Indiana pizzeria made headlines last week after owners announced they run a “Christian establishment” and declared their intent to refuse service for any LGBT weddings under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Amid the press and backlash the restaurant received as a result, many LGBT celebrities and allies have offered their solidarity. And while the discrimination is very serious, the unlikelihood of couples requesting pizza for their wedding day isn’t lost on the community.
Pink News UK notes out comedian Rosie O’Donnell joked: “The pizza lady was saying that gays were going to cater their wedding with pizza. Not even lesbians would do that. We might have a potluck, we have bring your own chilli… but that’s only if financial situations are tough.”
Actor and filmmaker Zach Braff, who starred in the past sitcom ‘Scrubs,’ offered another wedding catering option to Indiana same-sex couples: himself and former co-star Donald Faison. Braff posted to Twitter, “If you really and truly want pizza for your gay wedding in Indiana… We will make it for you.”

Disturbingly, out of the attention surrounding the prejudicial pizza parlor, a campaign has sprouted to support the restaurant’s owners with donations reaching over $800,000. In response, Huffington Post reports, “The Equality House, which sits directly across from the Westboro Baptist Church compound in Topeka, Kansas, and regularly champions causes related to the queer community, created a “virtual pizza party” to raise funds for LGBT homeless youth. Pop-legend and LGBT lifelong activist Cyndi Lauper also offered her support with a similar GoFundMe fundraiser, titled #PizzaForEquality.
