This Saturday, May 17, marks the tenth annual International Day Against Homophobia, which is a worldwide campaign to fight homophobia and discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Each year IDAH chooses a theme or topic regarding homophobia or prejudice against members of the LGBTQ community, to explore and discuss internationally. Last year the campaign topic was ‘Fight the Homophobia Web Virus‘ and this year’s campaign focuses on family with ‘I love my two moms, I love my two dads.’

The 2014 campaign seeks to decipher any questions people have regarding same-sex parenting in the hope of reducing discrimination against youth that are being raised by, or have been raised by, same-sex parents. The campaign also hopes to demonstrate that same-sex parents are not lesser than heterosexual parents, and that youth raised by same-sex parents will not be less successful or developed than children raised by heterosexual couples.

IDAH is a day that celebrates sexual diversity and encourages worldwide education to abolish homophobic behaviour and attitudes. There are many events held worldwide to promote awareness, such as the IDAH Breakfast in Vancouver.

This event will also be celebrating its tenth year, and will include a program discussing the topic of ‘Gay and Grey'; which will explore what it means to be out and aging. OUTtv is proud to be a Gold sponsor of this annual event.

More information regarding International Day Against Homophobia can be found on their website.
