Kim Davis, the US Kentucky Clerk who ignited controversy by refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in her county, gets satirically skewered in this Funny or Die video spoof called, Clerks and Recreation.
Davis has made headlines for denying same-sex couples their rightful marriage licenses, claiming doing so would violate her religious convictions. Davis ignored orders from both Kentucky’s own state Governor and the Supreme Court to do her job and provide the same-sex couples with legal marriage licenses.
After months of County Clerk Kim Davis, an elected Government administrator, refusing to file paperwork on behalf of same-sex couples, she was finally throw thrown in jail this week after a court hearing. The Post reports Davis remains in custody at the Carter County Detention Center.
A play on the former NBC hit sitcom, Parks and Recreation, the FoD clip takes Davis’ bigotry on with biting humor. In a witty mashup, the clip edits together real footage of Davis denying one same-sex couple’s request for a marriage license with clips featuring stars Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman as their characters in scenes from their series. Offerman’s Ron Swanson character offers this fitting estimation of Davis, saying that, “every time she laughs, an angel dies. Her birth was payback for the sins of man.”
