What is the difference between gay and straight blood? The #EndTheBan campaign assures us, absolutely nothing!
A new PSA released by the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI) emphasises the absurdity of the long archaic ban on donations from gay men.
The CCDI #EndtheBan campaign aims to end the donation ban for MSM (men who have sex with men), at a time when Canadas blood supply levels are at a critical low. The ban currently prevents a substantial group of potential donors, in total an estimated – 396,000 men and trans women who are banned from donating.
LGBT advocates and the Canadian Federation of Students have long been campaigning with Canadian Blood Services to eradicate the ban. A minor success was achieved in 2013 – when the ban was amended from a lifetime ban to allow donations from men celibate five years.
The CCDI #EndTheBan campaign includes not only the PSA but also an #EndTheBan petition to the CEO of Canadian Blood Services, Dr.Graham D. Sher. To sign the Change.Org petition please click here.
